Did you know you need to start taking care of your baby’s teeth once they erupt from the gums? Well, it’s true, if you want your baby to grow into the top-notch smile and oral health they deserve. However, taking care of your baby’s smile might be a difficult task if you’re not sure how to do so. So, to help you, our Thomas Bell, DDS dental team encourages you to do the following things:

Use fluoride: Fluoride is a beneficial mineral that can help strengthen and nourish your baby’s little chompers. So, it’s best to give your child fluoridated water, like water from your tap, once they come of age. You can give them water by mixing it with their formula or by giving them a bottle or sippy cup of water. To know how much water to give your child, please contact your pediatrician.

Clean their smile: It’s important to clean your baby’s little teeth on a regular basis. You can do so with a baby toothbrush (one that has a small head, long handle, and soft bristles) and water. Make sure to clean your baby’s teeth twice a day. To find out when to introduce toothpaste into your baby’s oral hygiene routine, feel free to ask Dr. Thomas Bell.

Be careful with bottle feedings: Baby bottle tooth decay is a real and prevalent issue in the world today. It occurs when you give your child sugary drinks in their bottle. So, to prevent this dental issue, it’s best to only put breastmilk, formula, and water in your baby’s bottle. Also, try to avoid sending your child to bed with a bottle.
